Red Rocket Tattoo Leases New, Larger Midtown Location

Red Rocket Tattoo, Midtown Manhattan’s premiere tattoo studio, has relocated from its home of 14 years to 976 Sixth Avenue, on the southeast corner of 36th Street. Set to move August 1, Red Rocket Tattoo will occupy a space 60 percent larger than its existing location at 46 West 36th Street.

“The company is definitely growing,” said Bob Weber, a director at Winick Realty Group LLC. “The plan is to hire more artists and expand their business.”

The 1,540-square-foot space is on the third floor of a retail condo that also includes an electronics distributor and a new burger concept. Red Rocket Tattoo operates primarily by appointment and boasts a celebrity clientele that includes John Mayer and Britney Spears. All of its artists are licensed by the State of New York.

Along with his associate Jayme Tomita, Weber represented both Red Rocket Tattoo and landlord 976 Sixth Avenue Operating Corp. in this long-term lease transaction.

World Famous Tattoo Studio Expanding in Midtown

Red Rocket Tattoo, world-famous tattoo studio, which has done work for celebs from John Mayer to Britney Spears, is getting ready to trade its long-time digs at 46 W. 36th St. for a newer, larger space.

But longtime fans of the Midtown shop won’t have to trek far. The new studio is opening just steps away.

Co-owner Adam Hays, 29, said despite the recession, business keeps booming at the shop, which opened as Triple X Tattoo 14 years ago. The team has built a loyal clientele of repeat customers who flock to the shop from across the globe.

“We figured we might as well keep the ball rolling,” said Hays, who’s been hard at work preparing the new location at the corner of West 36th Street and Sixth Avenue for its Aug. 1 opening.

Regrettable tattoos and the people who love them—John Mayer and Britney Spears are two notable clients—will no doubt cluster when Red Rocket Tattoo, one of the most formidable ink parlors in Manhattan, moves from 36th Street to Sixth Avenue later this year.

The tattoo emporium, which has operated for more than 14 years at 46 West 36th Street, will move this August to a 1,540-square-foot, third-floor retail condo at 976 Sixth Avenue. The new space, brokers note, is 60 percent larger than the tenant’s current space.

“The company is definitely growing,” said Bob Weber, a director at Winick Realty Group, who along with associate Jayme Tomita represented both Red Rocket Tattoo and the tattoo company’s new landlord, 976 Sixth Avenue Operating Corp. “The plan is to hire more artists and expand their business.”

Red Rocket Tattoo has leased 1,540 square feet of retail space at 976 Sixth Ave. situated on the southeast corner of West 36th Street. The tenant will move from 46 W. 36th St. to occupy the third-floor space at the three-story building.

Asking rent was $50 per square foot. Bob Weber of Winick Realty Group negotiated the lease deal on behalf of both the tenant and 976 Sixth Avenue Operating Corp., the landlord.
