Big Smoke Burger Leases First NY Location

alexander-hill-profile-003Canadian burger chain Big Smoke Burger has leased its first New York location at 70 Seventh Avenue, between West 14th and West 15th Streets in Chelsea.

The location, which had been occupied by the previous tenant for 20 years, includes 1,000 square feet on the ground floor, 500 square feet in the basement, and 880 square feet in an outdoor courtyard. Winick Realty Group’s Alexander Hill and Jonathan Banayan represented landlord Group 868 Inc. in the transaction.

“This is a great location to launch Big Smoke Burger in the New York market,” said Hill. “This area of Chelsea is growing rapidly.”

Big Smoke Burger, who plans to open the restaurant in the next four months, was represented by Ross Berkowitz of RKF.

Big Smoke Burger Bringing Poutine to NYC

big smoke burgerToronto-based fast casual chain Big Smoke Burger will soon be offering poutine–with real Ontario cheese curds and gravy–to New Yorkers after signing a lease at 70 Seventh Avenue.

“This is a great location to launch Big Smoke Burger in the New York market,” said Alexander Hill of Winick Realty Group, who represented the landlord, Group 868 Inc., in a prepared statement. “This area of Chelsea is growing rapidly with the 1, 2, 3 subway stop right nearby, the storefront is going to get seven-day foot traffic.”

The location, where Big Smoke Burger expects to open in the next four months, has been occupied by the previous tenant for 20 years and features 1,000 square feet on the ground floor, 500 square feet in the basement and an 880-square-foot outdoor courtyard.

Big Smoke Burger operates U.S. locations in Chicago, Colorado and Michigan, in addition to locations throughout the Toronto-metropolitan area and the Middle East. The restaurant’s menu includes a number of classic and signature burgers and sandwiches.

Ross Berkowitz of RKF represented the tenant in the transaction. Mr. Hill and Jonathan Banayan of Winick represented the landlord.

Calls to Winick and RKF were not immediately returned.

big smoke burgerWe first heard that the Ontario-based hamburger chain Big Smoke Burger was headed to New York last year, and it’s just been announced the import has signed a 1,000-square-foot lease at 70 Seventh Avenue, near West 15th Street. Sure, New York is overrun with burger restaurants, and there are thirteen kinds of burgers on the new contender’s menu — bedazzled with everything from “cilantro-feta spread” to havarti — but it also sells a promising, fast-food version of poutine made with Canadian curds and hand-cut fries. Last year, a representative told Grub Street the chain plans to open 50 locations throughout the U.S. within the next five years.
