Winick Realty Group LLC Brings Asian Fusion Restaurant To Williamsburg

Fushimi is at it again, opening their third New York City location in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The Asian fusion restaurant, which has been around for eight years, leased 7,200 square feet at 475 Driggs Avenue, on the corner of N. 10th Street, where it is set to open in the next few months.

Fushimi will serve its famous selection of sushi and Japanese specialties and an open bar situated under a 30-foot glass enclosed ceiling. Fushimi offers a family-friendly, yet stylish setting that will appeal to upscale, late-night crowds, as well as families and hipsters alike.

The restaurant is set to be as exciting a neighborhood fixture in Williamsburg as it has been in Staten Island for the past eight years, and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for four.

H&R Block in Five-Year Upper West Side Deal

With tax season behind them, H&R Block, the Kansas City -based tax services provider, has scouted new space on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The new 2,432-square-foot lease, at 208 West 96th Street, was brokered earlier this month and will replace space previously leased at nearby 750 Columbus Avenue. The asking rent was $115 a square foot annually.

With a five-year lease and a five-year option, the deal will put H&R inside the glass-façade base of a recently constructed rental building developed by Catalpa Development, brokers said.

Joseph Isa and Steven Weissmann, senior managing directors at Winick Realty Group, brokered the lease on behalf of Catalpa. Craig Hantgan of Esquire Properties, represented H&R Block in the transaction.

“This is a great move for H&R Block as the new location gives them greater visibility and puts them in a more high-traffic area,” Mr. Isa said. “They are also moving into a beautiful new construction where they are the first tenants to ever occupy the space.”

H&R Block inked a 2,400 SF lease at 208 W 96th St. Esquire Properties’ Craig Hantgan repped the tenant, while Winick Realty’s Joseph Isa and Steven Weissmann repped owner Catalpa Development.

Red Rocket Tattoo inked (perhaps with a rose or crossbones?) a long-term, 1,500 SF lease at 976 Sixth Ave. Winick Realty’s Bob Weber and Jayme Tomita repped both the tenant and owner 976 Sixth Avenue Operating Corp.

Winick Realty topped retail brokers for space signed from mid-April to mid-May, representing tenants in 41,829 square feet of space. It’s the second consecutive month that Winick topped the retail competition in The Real Deal’s Deal Sheet Summary. SRS Real Estate Partners and JW Burke & Company rounded out the top three. Overall, 226,257 square feet of retail leases were inked over 70 transactions during the four week span. Food and beverage stores accounted for 29 of those leases.

This month, we have plenty of openings and closings to report, but first, a moment of silence for H&H Bagels… Okay, now that that’s over with, let’s talk new wine bars, shirt shops, food markets, luggage stores, and doggie and human pampering businesses. As for closings: tea, pizza and makeup stores had a rough month.

Westside Market – The company signed a lease for another grocery store on 97th and Broadway.

Wild Bird Rehab Center – The Wild Bird Fund is opening a rehab center for hurt little birds on 87th and Columbus.

Duane Reade – The Laureate will be getting a two-story Duane Reade come August.

Salon by Stephanie Xu – A new salon is expected to open on 60th Street.

Pawsitively Love – A pet store that also offers grooming is opening on 60th Street.
