A spokesman for Winick Realty Group says The Renaissance in Grant City will be torn down to make way for a new retail center.

A broker with the company says they’re currently in talks with several national tenants to lease space.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin this summer.

The Renaissance closed in 2013 after it was damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Former catering hall to be demolished for new retail center

si advance hylan blvdThe former Renaissance catering hall in Grant City is slated for demolition to make way for a new retail center with national tenants, the Advance has learned.

The long-time catering hall at 2131 Hylan Blvd., which closed abruptly in 2013 after its owners said they couldn’t recoup losses sustained during Hurricane Sandy, will be knocked down and a retail center will be built in its place, said Tyler Bennett, who is the exclusive leasing broker for the shopping center, and senior vice president and partner of Winick Realty Group, which has offices in Manhattan and Cranford, N.J.

The adjacent property —  a 10,000-square-foot Duane Read that is currently being sublet to a Jembro — will also be part of the retail center and will likely be occupied by a new tenant, said Bennett.

“I am marketing a new development to combine both properties to create a retail center,” said Bennett, who noted he’s currently talking with several potential national retail tenants to lease space on the half-acre parcel.

“This is a full block development on Hylan Boulevard that doesn’t exist. It’s very rare a property like this comes on the market,” he added, noting the retail development is expected to start to take shape by summer.

He said the property could include up to an 11,000-square-foot building on two floors, but the owner/developer is waiting to garner tenant interest before architectural plans are drawn up, said Bennett.

The retail center will include onsite parking and have main access points off Hylan Boulevard, as well as access and egress from bordering side streets, he said.
