Health Food Store and Pharmacy Opening First UWS Location

750-columbus-avenue-_coverWhile traditional grocery stores have been struggling to survive, pharmacies, health-focused speciality stores and ethnic grocers continue to expand and add more locations, a trend CO recently covered.

As a case in point, HealthSource Pharmacy, a health food store and pharmacy with three locations in Manhattan since 2001, has signed a 750-square-foot lease for a new outpost at 750 Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side, CO has learned. The asking rent in the 10-year deal was $175 per square foot, according to a Winick Realty Group spokeswoman.

The site will be HealthSource’s first in the neighborhood, and the company is looking for more.

HealthSource “is continuing its growth plans and looking on the Upper East Side, Financial District and Tribeca,” Winick’s Aaron Fishbein, who represented the tenant in the deal, said via a spokeswoman.

The store will occupy the ground floor of the 163-unit rental building between West 96th and West 97th Streets, which is owned by Equity Residential and known as the Westmont.

“HealthSource offers unique products and services and will be a wonderful amenity for the residents of the Westmont as well as those living in the 1,500 high-end apartments within three blocks of the site,” Eastern Consolidated’s Brad Cohen, who represented the landlord with colleagues Jon Kamali and Benjamin Sandel, said in a prepared statement.

The store’s other locations are at 1000 First Avenue between East 54th and East 55th Streets, 1302 Second Avenue between East 68th and East 69th Streets and 120 East 34th Street between Lexington and Park Avenues.

Winick Realty Group Hires Its Second Generation

danielle-winick-print-ver-profile-001A second generation of the Winick family has joined the eponymously named Winick Realty Group.

The retail specialty firm’s CEO Jeff Winick has brought on his daughter Danielle Winick, as a full-time employee at the firm, based here.

“I grew up in real estate,” says Danielle, whose mother is also in the real estate business as a residential broker at Corcoran. “My weekends were always spent looking at properties, listening in on business calls and going to meetings with my father. I explored other fields but this industry is my passion and it has been my dream to join the family business.”

After working at the company for the past five years on a part-time basis, Danielle has become an associate following her graduation from the New York University Stern Business School, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in business with a concentration in management.

She previously interned in the retail department at Vornado Realty Trust, giving her a view of the business not just from the developer’s side but also from the perspective of a different firm. Her tenure there will provide a more well-rounded approach to her position at Winick Realty Group, the firm states.

Outside of real estate, Danielle Winick has always had a passion for volunteer work. She spent seven years volunteering for Operation Smile, a non-profit organization that provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for underprivileged children around the globe. She went on missions with the organization to Vietnam and Bolivia, working alongside doctors, nurses and other volunteers. In addition, she founded Operation Smile’s “An Evening of Smiles,” a charity event held in the Southampton that raises money for the organization.

Danielle Winick will work alongside her father, representing properties throughout Manhattan.

“Being here on a daily basis allows me to see my projects through to completion,” says Danielle Winick. “I am excited for the opportunity to really dive in and be fully involved with our clients, as well as to be working alongside my father and learning from him every day.”

“I have been waiting for this day for a long time,” adds Jeff Winick. “The next generation of Winick Realty Group is finally here.”

Phase 1 Construction Begins on Cammeby’s Neptune/Sixth at Coney Island

626 sheepshead bay roadConstruction on the first phase of Cammeby International’s Neptune/Sixth—a Coney Island mixed-use redevelopment of the former Trump Village Shopping Center and Royal Palace Bath—has commenced and is slated to bring a seven-story, 161k SF retail and commercial building to 626 Sheepshead Bay Road by next summer.

The firm’s also beginning site work for a 90k SF retail space at 532 Neptune Ave. The project’s second phase, which will include a residential component, isn’t expected to break ground until late next year.

S9 Architecture design principal Navid Maqami says S9 is focused on transforming the neighborhood’s “existing fabric” while still keeping what’s essential to Coney Island residents and businesses.

Winick Realty Group will serve as the retail leasing agent for the community, while the Lawrence Group will oversee office leasing. We reported earlier that Trump Village businesses will be allowed to move into the community when completed, but this wasn’t confirmed with the most recent announcement.
